Cycling is one of my main hobbies and it honestly consumes a lot of my free time. Prior to getting a road bike, I was a frequent commuter and runner. This allowed me to establish a base level of fitness which I am steadily increasing my training load now with more structured workouts/recovery rides.

I prefer doing hill climbs and, while there is nothing above 1500 feet/440 meters, Oahu has a lot to offer in the way of both steady and punchy climbs. A comprehensive list can be found at the Hawaii Bicycling League’s website.

While the sport can become as expensive as you make it, common wisdom is that the greatest upgrades you can make are to your fitness. That said, wheel upgrades and having comfortable and light equipment/clothing can make the experience much better.
